The Place To Go Boating

    Share

As far as boating goes, here in Florida, we live in the boating capital of the world.  Not only can we go boating any time of the year, in Central Florida we can enjoy lakes, rivers and oceans, all a very short distance away.

The Harris Chain of Lakes is one of the most beautiful and scenic bodies of water in the state.  The seven main lakes encompassing over 76,000 acres are connected by the most picturesque rivers and canals, the Dora Canal topping the list. In addition to their shear size, our lakes are bordered by some high hills, beautiful homes, abundant wildlife and something new to see on every trip.

One of the aspects I love most boating on our lakes, the wildlife. Ospreys and bald eagles are overhead and can swoop down in an instant to pluck a fish out of the water.  On shore raccoons, blue Herons, kingfishers and the occasional otter can be seen searching for their next meal. Heck we even saw a black bear swimming across the Lake Griffin ditch one day.  As the water clarity continues to improve turtles, gar, bass and other fish are easy to spot.  You never get tired of finding out what’s around the next corner. A popular day trip is to boat north from Lake Griffin thru the 23’ Moss Bluff Loch to visit the famous Silver Springs in Ocala. Did I mention the monkeys on the Silver River?

Yes, we have a few alligators but they don’t get in the way of people enjoying the water.  Skiing, tubing, wake boarding and wake surfing are all very popular water sports activities.  There’s a few spots on Lake Dora and Harris in throw anchor and swim. Fishing is the most popular activity attracting world class bass and crappie tournaments.  Other popular species include bluegill, striped bass, sunfish, chain pickerel and gar all reside here awaiting anglers.

Don’t want to get in the water?  How about a leisurely cruise to one of our waterside restaurant’s for lunch or dinner? Better yet, how about Mission Inn Resort for Sunday Bruch?  Just cruising the lakes, taking in the scenery, enjoying time with family and friends and watching some of the most spectacular sunsets north of Key West are memories you’ll never forget.

So rather than continue writing, I’m going to take a boat ride!  Thanks for the read and see you on the water.
