Exploring our Backyard Waterways Series
Early European settlers hunted the Ocklawaha River’s dense swamp forests, fished its pristine waters and used the waterway as a major thoroughfare into central Florida. Silver Springs was for decades one of the state’s most popular tourist destinations and is a 3 hour boat ride from Mount Dora Boating Center.

Get your Fish-On
Whether you call them specks, speckled perch, papermouths, bachelor perch, calico bass, black crappie or just crappies (Pomoxis nigromaculatus) they are plentiful here in our Central Florida lakes and rivers. Next to largemouth bass, crappie are Florida’s second most sought after freshwater game fish.

Dealer Gives Back to Community in a Million Ways
Kids and hundreds of other families overflow the Mt. Dora Boating Center’s parking lot and surrounding streets each December evening. But it’s not to visit the showroom. Rather, it’s to be immersed in the spirit of Christmas as illuminated by well over 1 million lights and displays that literally blanket the buildings, grounds and docks of this central Florida dealership.

Exploring our Backyard Waterways
Known to the early settlers of Florida as the Elfin River this one and a quarter mile stretch of waterway has earned the reputation of being one of the most beautiful in Florida. This jungle-like waterway is part of a large wetland swamp, fed by underground springs, abundant rainfall and lake out flow. Its beautiful old Bald Cypress trees draped with Spanish Moss provide a picturesque canopy for the abundant flora and fauna below.

Day-tripping to St. Johns River/ Silver Glen State Park
Our Central Florida Boating Destinations article mentions a number of popular day cruise spots, one of them is the St. Johns River. This 311 mile river is just a short 20 mile trailer trip to the east of Mount Dora. While just being on the river makes for a great day, we picked Silver Glen State Park as our destination for a little swimming and snorkeling.
